I am a single mother of a 5 yr old son. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec 2006. At the time of diagnosis, I was unemployed (in between jobs) and didn't have insurance. I was lucky enough to get Florida Medicaid. However, on Jan 31st 2007, I had my surgery, which was a bilateral masectomy with reconstructive surgery. I just began my chemo treatments 2 weeks ago and will need 8 treatments, which will be once every three weeks, ending in August. I will also begin my radiation in about a month.
I am on medicaid and cant lose my insurance or I will not be able to afford to pay for my doctors, treatments, etc.. My problem is that I am not able to work until after all this is said and done and I am looking for possible assistance in getting me through the next 6-7 months, for my rent, cost of living, etc. I no longer no what to do and I cant get a job, and as soon as I tell someone that I have breast cancer, they act like it's the plague and never call me back, etc. I would assume it has to do with the days after chemo and not being able to work due to being sick.
I dont know if there is anyone out there willing to help but I thought I would at least try.
